I'm finally a nurse in Germany!

After having been through all of this, having bent over backwards for this, I finally got it. I'm finally recognized as a genuine nurse in Germany. That's one thing less to worry about, and a huge amount of satisfaction and pride!

I got it. I won't play the unpretentious, because I worked very hard for this, and I earned it. It was extremely frustrating when I came here, to have a formation and being unable to be employed as such. Some people didn't think I could make it, it's now obvious they were wrong.

A change of pace

When Jeanne started working in the retirement home, I adapted my work hours, with the agreement of my bosses, in order to spend as much time with her as possible. This lead me to work either from 6 to 14 or from 13 to 21, and it was ok as long as I managed to be there for important meetings. However, last month, during the biannual meeting with my bosses, I was told that time isolation could hurt team work, so I got back to usual working hours.

About at the same period, Jeanne started having to take care of medicine preparation, and started working at 5 to have extra quiet time in order to fulfill those tasks. That's how I'm left having to occupy myself from 5 to 8 in the mornings, and sport is perfectly suited for this.

After having extracted myself from nightly brain fog near to a relaxed breakfast, I still have at least an hour left, spend running or cycling on roads around the house in this beautiful summer start. Even for this only reason is the early waking up already worth it.

On the opposite, when Jeanne is working late, I have those same 3 hours free, spent trying to cook something before getting her at work. And knowing that scrambled eggs are already challenging for me, you can deduce that evening cooking training is way more difficult to me than early sport training. I'm lucky to have an awesome cooking trainer available... as long as she's not at work.

Only 3 weeks left... or so I hope

I had yesterday a last interview at the Regierung (Administration) and if all goes well, my diploma will be validated for Germany within the next 3 weeks.

"If all goes well", because simply getting in touch with them to arrange an interview was a pain. You know how it is... administration worldwide has issues concerning deadlines. We're just hoping this time they'll do it right. The man we met there (he was really nice, that deserves to be said) assured us he would do his best since we had all the paperwork ready.

At last!

I have an appointment this week at the Regierung in Munich to recognize me as graduate nurse in Germany. I called them during 3 weeks and at last they answered.

I hope that it will faster for the administration.

Trial period is over

I had today an interview with my boss concerning my trial period. It went really well, without any pressure, as opposed to the last time. My trial period should be over on the 15th of March. It was the opportunity to draw conclusions over those almost 6 months spent it this retirement home. They understood that I wouldn't change my mind about dealing with medicine. I am neither paid for this, nor allowed to do this. Don't call me stupid.

During this meeting, I mentioned the leak of organisation within the home, the leak of information I should have received during my trial period, and that I had to get by myself instead of being able to count on the person supposed to help me get used to my work. I also mentioned my interest in learning how to offer small activities (about 10 minutes) for residents, whether they suffer from dementia or not. They seemed to take it well. I'm hoping it will lead to something constructive.

They also offered me to work as tutor for newly arrived colleagues and students,on top of my current work. I took this opportunity. This is a task I already fulfilled while I was working in France.

I also got a 200€ raise on my monthly salary. This will definitely not hurt.

On a final note, they still plan to keep me as nurse, as soon as I get my validation for Germany. I hope I won't fail my german exam, so that I can finally get this validation!

Anyway, to sum it up, my trial period is over, and everything is fine.
